The Dreadlock Ruwatan Tradition or 'Tradisi Ruwatan Rambut Gimbal'
Tsaabitah zuhroh - The tradition that I will introduce to you all is a tradition that I just learned about when I was a volunteer in Dieng, Wonosobo. The name is, the Dreadlock Ruwatan Tradition or Tradisi Ruwatan Rambut Gimbal.
This tradition of cutting dreadlocks originally came from the Dieng plateau. Then this tradition spread to several villages in Wonosobo. According to previous people, this person who had dreadlocks was the incarnation of Kyai Kolodete, who was the founding figure of Wonosobo who had dreadlocks.
People who naturally have dreadlocks must cut their hair in a traditional ceremony. What is the purpose? This tradition of cutting dreadlocks aims to cleanse or free children with dreadlocks from disaster. Because it is believed that it will bring good rizqi and the child can live a normal life with normal hair.
After the cutting event is finished, the host performs a slametan or prayer together as a form of gratitude to Allah SWT for all the pleasures that Allah has given.
